In the era of AI and AX, will administrators be unnecessary?
Jack Dorsey recently proposed an organizational structure at Block where the middle management layer is reduced, and AI takes over a significant portion of the information transmission and coordination roles of existing managers.
I've also experienced that as I utilize AI, the boundaries between different job categories such as planning, development, and design are becoming increasingly blurred, and the existing handover costs are significantly decreasing.
However, I think that the disappearance of information transmission and the disappearance of management are different issues.
AI can do a good job of identifying who is doing what, organizing documents, finding schedules, and conflicts. But when the interests of multiple teams collide, deciding what to give up or taking responsibility for the consequences of that decision is not something that will disappear.
In fact, thanks to AI, if we can create more with fewer people, we will have to directly prioritize tasks that were previously filtered out due to lack of manpower.
So, I think that what will disappear in the future is not 'management' itself, but rather management roles that existed only to transmit information.
The interesting thing is what led me to think this way.
In our company, there was a discussion about "In the AI era, we need to break down job boundaries and reduce middle management levels." But ironically, the proposal itself went through the existing management system of executives → organization → managers → teams.
That's why I titled this post "Jack Dorsey eliminated managers, but the proposal went through managers".

Why is Jack Dorsey eliminating middle managers?
